Academic Skills Building

The Academic Skills Building (ASB) program helps students improve Reasoning Through Language and Mathematic to meet the basic skill levels required for Career and Technical Education programs. Based on Basic Skills Test results, instructors create personalized lessons to help students reach state-mandated exit scores. For programs of 450+ clock hours, students must meet minimum skill levels to earn their certificate. Class length is tailored to each student’s needs.

English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)

Practical Nursing Program (PN)

Testing Information

  • Testing Fee: A $15.00 fee is required for initial testing.: A $15.00 fee is required for initial testing.
  • Basic Skills Test (CASAS Goals) and ESOL Test (CASAS Steps):
    • Walk-ins: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
  • Arrival Requirement: Testers must arrive 10 minutes before the testing time with a Valid Photo ID:
  • Valid Photo ID: Bring one of the following valid photo IDs:
    • Florida Driver’s License
    • Green Card
    • Passport
    • Florida ID
  • Students with Disabilities: If you require testing accommodations, please contact the Disability Services advisor at 754-321-5259 before taking the Basic Skills Test (CASAS Goals) and ESOL Test (CASAS Steps).
